This concept refers to the idea that the more elements in a game, the more you have to think about at any given moment. This creates "stacks" which weigh on your mental as more factors are added.
Sports have always had it but E-sports are special in that the rules often change.
Frame data changes, new moves are added, the game just plays differently than when you began.
All this can be very overwhelming for new players & can easily stagnate your growth so it's important to know what you can do against it.
Here's the top 5 ways to combat mental stack
# 5 Practice until it's Automatic
This step alone solves a lot of problems for players & it can't be stated enough, practice your combos.
In relation to mental stack it's important to have them down so you're not doing your opponent's job for them. Make it harder for them.
# 4 Absorb all the experience, leave nothing foreign
Play every matchup you can for as long as you can. Anyone can offer you experience.
Yes, some people might challenge you more than others but the less situations that feel strange to you the less taxing it is on your mental.
# 3 Flowcharts are tools, not crutches
Every pro player has them, a set of options that limit the opponent's moves. This alleviates your mental stack heavily.
It's ok and SUGGESTED that you work out a gameplan that plays itself, just be prepared to adapt when you need to!
# 2 The stacks begin sooner than you think
You should already help yourself out & start thinking at character select :
What should I do at the 99 (round start)
How do our characters interact at the 99
What's the worst case scenario to avoid here?
Avoid these stacks early!
# 1 Be entirely too present
Remember where you are at all times.
We're in this patch, this matchup, against this person. If walk up grab works even though it shouldn't, KEEP DOING IT.
Every match is different to make sure you're locked into this one & only this one. Got it?
And that’s it for me! Hope you enjoyed this thread and find some help in dealing with your mental stack after this. Good luck out there fighting gamers.
